Hosting PhD Scholars from the University of Chicago
DPIC hosted PhD scholars Santiago Perez-Cardona and Yulia Valdivia Rivera from the University of Chicago to Bhubaneswar. During their visit, they conducted independent research engagements aligned with DPIC’s ongoing projects, including skilling and social protection. Santiago Perez-Cardona undertook field visits and focus group discussions with students from Cuttack–Jagatpur, Unit 9 (Bhubaneswar), Kendriya Vidyalaya (via Zoom), and Ramadevi University Junior College, Bhubaneswar. His research explored education and skilling pathways, particularly post-secondary transitions, and he continues to work on generating policy-relevant insights in this area. Yulia Valdivia Rivera examined issues of social protection and distress migration in Odisha, focusing on why households engaged in seasonal migration continue to face persistent poverty despite repeated mobility.
